| Food Programs Staff and volunteers provide 30-50 food hampers on a typical day. About 2000 people per month benefit, and almost half of these are children. Our operating costs (building and staff) amount to about $10 per hamper. Hampers contain $30-40 worth of supplies including non-perishable food, fruit, vegetables, and meat as available. About 100 volunteers over the year are involved in assembling and distributing food hampers. For some of these volunteers, the opportunity to develop their own work and social skills is an important benefit. The key element of the food bank and the drop-in is to treat everyone with respect, and to welcome them into an environment in which it is safe to ask for the help that they need. Samaritan House is a member of the Canadian Association of Food Banks. | Food Bank 1:30 pm Monday to Friday Provides food hampers once every 2 weeks with non-perishable items as well as fruits, vegetables, and breads as they are available.
